A sneak peek at Odoo 19

A sneak peek at Odoo 19 – what can we expect?

This fall, Odoo will be releasing its latest version: Odoo 19. Although there is not much information about the upcoming version yet, Odoo has released their roadmap for Odoo 19, so we can get an insight into what is coming. There may still be changes and additions leading up to the launch, but we are already starting to get a solid picture of where Odoo 19 is headed.

There are many indications that Odoo 19 will be one of the most significant to date, with new features, improvements and industry adaptations that can give companies both greater efficiency and new opportunities to work strategically with data, user experiences and sustainability.

Even more AI

Odoo is continuously working on implementing AI in the system, and therefore it is of course also one of the focus points in version 19, where AI will be integrated more broadly. The goal is for AI to become a permanent and important part of daily work in Odoo across functions.

Some of the AI initiatives that Odoo has unveiled in version 19 are:

  • Server Actions with prompts:
It will be possible to create automations by simply writing what you want, e.g. "Set status to 'Pending' if customer has not paid within 7 days".
  • AI in Odoo Studio:
When creating new fields and properties, AI can suggest content and formatting based on previous data and context.
  • AI assistant in editors and chat:
When writing text, responding to emails or describing tasks, you get context-based suggestions, corrections and wording directly in the system.
  • Personal assistant:
A new conversational AI agent can help find data, suggest actions, and assist in workflows without having to click through multiple menus. You can create different AI agents based on different models, such as ChatGPT 4 or Gemini.

These various AI capabilities become effective tools that can save time, ensure consistency, and reduce errors in everyday work. This applies to both small teams and larger organizations.

New ESG module aims to make sustainability reporting easier

Another big news in Odoo 19 is the introduction of a dedicated ESG module. There is no doubt that it is still in its early stages, but we see great potential, especially for those companies that are already working with or preparing for sustainability reporting (such as the CSRD requirements in the EU).

The module is based on a simple and logical model:

Emission factor × activity = emission

As it stands now, Odoo will – based on pre-loaded emission factors – automatically calculate CO₂ footprint and ESG data based on the company's regular activity, e.g. purchasing electronics, transport, fuel, etc. This is done by using existing data from accounting and purchasing.

Features include:

  • Automatic calculation of emissions (scope 1–3)
  • Report generation with just a few clicks
  • Preparing for voluntary ESG reporting for SMEs

Although it is still new and under development, we see strong potential in the ESG module. For many companies, it can be a crucial help in getting started with or systematizing their sustainability efforts without additional resources or external systems.

Improvements on web and eCommerce

Odoo 19 brings a wide range of improvements to Website and eCommerce with a focus on speed, flexibility and better editing tools. A key technical upgrade is the transition to OWL, Odoo's own modern JavaScript framework, which provides faster page loading, more compact code and a more responsive experience for both users and editors. At the same time, new design templates and dynamic snippets are introduced, making it much easier to build and customize websites and product pages without coding.

Search engine optimization is also made even easier. Version 19 provides improved control over URL structures, microdata, and accessibility checks, making it easier to create technically strong pages that perform in search results.

Finally, it becomes easier to distribute products to multiple channels with direct integration to Google Merchant Center as well as synchronization with Meta (Facebook/Instagram) and TikTok. Overall, working with both content and sales in Odoo becomes more intuitive and efficient.

Sales and Inventory made simpler and faster

Odoo 19 offers a number of concrete improvements that make it easier to handle sales and inventory tasks on a daily basis. In the POS app, users get an improved and more flexible experience, including a new dark mode, the ability to quickly switch between different preset setups, and support for refunds directly from payment terminals – a practical addition for businesses with physical stores or cafes.

The Inventory app introduces Pack-in-Pack functionality, which makes it possible to build and track complex package hierarchies, such as pallets with multiple boxes. In addition, the handling of units and packaging becomes much simpler, as the models are combined into one common structure. This means fewer clicks and greater overview, especially in your purchasing and sales flows.

Smarter financial management

With Odoo 19, accounting becomes both more efficient and more accessible. One of the most visible improvements is the new bank reconciliation, which also works on mobile. It makes it possible to complete and approve reconciliations directly from your phone.

The system is also getting smarter: With automatic suggestions, Odoo 19 can recommend the right accounts and VAT settings based on document data, saving you time and minimizing errors. It also makes it easier to handle mixed expenses, such as company cars or equipment that is also used privately, with support for percentage-based distribution between business and private. For accounting users, this means fewer manual actions, greater consistency and more flexibility in daily work.

Odoo 19 places the user at the center

Where Odoo 18 was largely characterized by technical improvements and preparation for a new front-end architecture, Odoo 19 has an even greater focus on better user experiences, more automation and greater business value, regardless of whether you work with eCommerce, logistics, accounting or sustainability.

Odoo 19 is a version that offers more automation, better workflows and new opportunities to work strategically with data – and not least adds an important new feature in the form of an ESG module that can help companies document and improve their climate footprint.
