What is Rita Din Diskbänk?
Rita Din Diskbänk (RDD) is a central part of Purus’ digital setup and is used daily by retailers, professionals and private customers to design bespoke worktops. For many years, the solution has been an important tool in Purus’ business, but as new technological possibilities emerged and user expectations increased, the need for a future-proof and more flexible platform grew.
This led Purus to engage itpilot to develop a completely new version of RDD – built from the ground up, without technical debt, and with a significant improvement in functionality, user experience and administration.
The challenge: A system with technical debt and limited flexibility
The previous version of RDD was developed in TYPO3 and, over the years, had been handled by several different developers. This resulted in a fragmented codebase that was difficult to maintain and cumbersome to extend.
Many changes – both large and small – were hardcoded directly into the system. As a result, even simple adjustments such as price updates or product changes could take many hours to implement and often required developer involvement. A large portion of the time was spent on bug fixes and technical maintenance rather than actual development.
In addition, Purus’ internal team was unable to update or manage information in the configurator themselves. Even minor changes required developer assistance, which increased response times and made daily operations unnecessarily resource-intensive.
Finally, the previous version of RDD was also limited in terms of design options. For example, users could not design angled worktops, and the maximum length was significantly shorter than what is supported today.
In short, the system worked – but not optimally, neither for Purus’ internal workflows nor for end users.
The solution: A renewed RDD
In close collaboration with Purus, we have developed a completely new version of RDD. Our focus has been on creating a modern, stable and scalable platform with significant improvements to user experience, performance and administration. For this reason, we chose to develop the new solution using Laravel.
The updates include, among other things:
- A strong technical foundation with no technical debt
- Faster load times and a far more responsive experience
- A dedicated administration panel for Purus’ internal team, enabling them to independently:
- Update prices
- Edit product information
- Upload new images
- Adjust settings and options
- A modern and intuitive design that makes it easier for all user groups to navigate and create configurations
- New features such as organisations, project creation and real-time price adjustments
- Expanded options for retailer login and self-service, streamlining workflows
- A scalable solution that is easy to further develop as new needs arise and that supports Purus’ future growth
The result: Full control and improved customer experiences
With the new RDD solution, Purus now has a modern, flexible and intuitive configurator that significantly improves the user experience for all parties. The platform is fully responsive and easy to use across all screen sizes and devices.
One of the most important changes is the implementation of a dedicated administration panel for Purus. This means that Purus is now fully self-sufficient and can make updates and adjustments to all product-related elements in the configurator – including prices, images and settings – without relying on itpilot. Where a simple change previously could take more than 10 hours, it can now be completed in under one hour by Purus’ own team.
As a result, the new RDD solution has delivered significant time savings, reduced costs for external development and enabled Purus’ internal team to respond quickly to market changes, launch new products or adjust pricing.
The configurator has also greatly expanded customers’ design freedom. It is now possible to design angled and longer worktops, making it easier for customers to configure the exact solution they need. These extended capabilities allow Purus to meet a broader range of customer demands and strengthen their competitiveness.
Purus can already see that the new solution has been well received and is actively used. They are experiencing direct conversions and qualified enquiries generated through the improved configurator.
Statement from Purus
