DR Seniorklub got Joomla updated safely

Like many others with a Joomla website, DR Seniorklub needed to have their website updated to the latest Joomla version. That's why they reached out to itpilot for help.

An update of Joomla is not just a click of a button. It requires a thorough review of the entire website to ensure that all plugins are compatible with the new version, just as there may be a need to adapt or replace templates.

Joomla updated on our test environment

When we update Joomla for our customers, just as we did for DR Seniorklub, we first of all take a backup of the website and the database. Next, we carry out the update on our own development environment, so that the current website can continue to be live and the visitors are not disturbed.

After DR Seniorklub contacted us, we did a review of the website, including its plugins, templates, special solutions and code.

Based on this initial review of the website, we know which plugins need to be updated or replaced in connection with the Joomla update. For DR Seniorklub, this meant that, among other things, there were some forms that had to be created and adapted - and then of course we tested and ensured that the forms continue to be sent and delivered correctly.

After we had completed the updates and tested the website, DR Seniorklub was given access to view the page in our development environment before we launched the website again on www.drseniorklub.dk.

Facts about Joomla

Joomla is among the top 5 most popular CMS with a global market share of 2.6% according to W3Techs. Joomla was launched in 2005 and has since released new updates with bug fixes and security updates on an ongoing basis..

Despite Joomla's popularity and the launch of new versions, not all webmasters get updated to the latest version. In fact, according to joomla.org only 8.6% of all Joomla websites are updated to version 4.

Thus, almost all Joomla websites still run on version 3 or an older version, which is no longer supported. Joomla 3 also reaches end of life on August 17, 2023, which means that the version is no longer supported and therefore does not receive bug fixes and security updates. That is why it is important to have your Joomla website updated on an ongoing basis.

There are also other benefits to updating Joomla regularly. New updates can also provide new options and new functions. Among other things, the Joomla 4 update has made it easier to work with SEO, the loading speed has been improved and the search function has become intelligent.
